The Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME) has launched a Mannequin Challenge in celebration of NS50!
The Mannequin Challenge video – a viral trend where participants would remain frozen like mannequins while a camera records them – takes the theme of “A Duty to Our Homeland. A Shared Legacy Across Generations.”. Members of the ASME Executive Council took part in the filming of the video at the Army Museum of Singapore.
As the first association to initiate the NS50 Mannequin Challenge, ASME strongly urges other Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs), agencies and SMEs to take on the “challenge” to film a similar video and reinforce their support for National Service and national defence.
In addition, leading up to Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day on 1 July 2017, ASME is organising the SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony 2017 for the North/ North-East Zone at Temasek Polytechnic. The annual event is held for business owners and NSmen to pledge their commitment to National Service. All participating companies will be signing the declaration in support of the National Service and attain the NS Mark – a national level accreditation scheme that recognises businesses and organisations that have human resource practices in place to allow NSmen employees to attend to their National Service obligations. The ceremony will be held on 30 June 2017 and 128 companies have signed up to participate.
Emphasising the vital support from employers for national defence, Mr Kurt Wee, President of ASME, said, “Many local entrepreneurs, prior to starting a business, have gone through two years of National Service. That is an important period of time where NSmen forge close bonds with their platoon mates, and glean life lessons and valuable experiences. Just like our NSmen that defend our nation’s frontline, business owners play an equally important role in National Defence by accommodating NSmen serving their reservist commitments. The SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony provides a good platform for business owners and NSmen to reaffirm their loyalty and commitment to National Service.”
“National Service is a crucial pillar for Singapore and every one of us has a part to play in securing our nation, our home. A strong and credible national defence team creates an economic environment that is favourable for local businesses to thrive, and this interconnecting relationship between stability and prosperity is one that has to be protected to secure our country’s future,” he added.
ASME is the organiser for the SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony for the 9th year running.
ASME would like to acknowledge the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD) - Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Army Museum of Singapore, Singapore Discovery Centre, SAF Volunteer Corps, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Ang Ai Hua for assistance in coordination of the video shoot for the Mannequin Challenge, as well as J Team Productions for the song used in the video.
