igloohome: Going beyond the borders of Southeast Asia

December 24, 2019

Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) understand the importance of internationalisation and identify themselves as imperative parts in boosting the economy. While Singapore’s market is a mature one with lots of potential, it is limited by size, and internationalisation allows companies to tap on much bigger markets, helping them scale at a faster pace.

Since its first product launch in 2016, igloohome has now grown into a leading smart access company today. The smart lock maker now has a presence in over 80 countries with over 100 distribution companies globally. The brand’s products allow home and property owners to manage access via a mobile app. Owners can generate time-sensitive PIN codes and Bluetooth keys to ensure properties are kept safe at all times.

With the help and support of Enterprise Singapore, igloohome was able to venture beyond its neighbours to establish its brand. By participating in international trade shows, the brand has forged strong partnerships in major markets such as the US, Europe and of course, Southeast Asia. Some of the key trade shows include the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas and the recent IFA in Berlin.

These shows offer exhibitors a chance to participate in its renowned awards too. These awards are great platforms for up and coming brands to showcase their products. Award winners are able to gain traction via international media coverage in big publications, aiding its efforts in growing brand awareness.

Key to its successful expansion overseas, these events have allowed igloohome to reach global customers, get feedback on products and services and gain a better understanding of the overseas market. The brand’s partnerships with distributors also provided insights on how to better improve its offerings in the different markets. To better penetrate the various markets, the brand realised that some of its products required minor modifications to suit the regulations of certain countries.

By attending the right events and drawing on the support provided by government bodies, igloohome has managed to unlock global business opportunities. It is key for SMEs to stay nimble and informed to keep up to date with global trends, and to identify niches to fill.

With innovation and internationalisation being mutually reinforcing pillars, igloohome aims to put out products that are in keeping with the times. Leveraging the rise of smart cities, the company launched iglooworks this year. The enterprise-focused line of products incorporates new protocols like Narrowband-Internet of Things into its devices, making its solutions a one-stop shop for large-scale access management. Through rigorous research and development, working closely with distributors and keeping its ears to the ground, the company continually strives to innovate its product offerings to accommodate for future expansion opportunities.
